SKIP KIRKWOOD, M.S., J.D., NREMT-P, EFO, CMO currently serves as the Chief of the Wake County, North Carolina Emergency Medical Services Division. He has been involved in EMS since 1973, as an EMT, paramedic, supervisor, educator, manager, consultant, state EMS director, and chief EMS officer. Skip holds a Master of Science in Health Services Administration from Central Michigan University and a Juris Doctorate from the Rutgers University School of Law. He is a graduate of the U. S. Fire Administration’s Executive Fire Officer program, and was recently recognized by the Commission on Public Safety Excellence as one of the first five credentialed Chief Medical Officers in the United States. His professional interests include the development and credentialing of future EMS leaders, the integration of public health and emergency medical services, and the application of the science of operational analysis to EMS system management.
